Flavoured edible straws are here to help you reduce your plastic waste

And they make the ultimate addition to your weekend beverage.

With each and every one of the beverage industry’s latest developments—think frosé, anti-aging pink gin and rosé cider—sending millennials into a frenzy, it’s no surprise that one of the largest producers of your favourite spirits has surfaced with its very own must-have product.

Alcoholic beverages company Diageo (the parent company of Gordon’s Gin and Schweppes) has introduced a range of edible straws that each serve to complement you favourite premixed cans. Not only do these straws make for a stellar snack, they’re also eliminating plastic waste.

However, Diageo may have just provided us with an even better alternative aimed at helping reduce the use of millions of plastic straws—a staggering figure that has contributed to the total of over 150 million tonnes of plastic that has ended up in our oceans.

Available in a range of flavours that were created to complement Diageo’s premixed cans, the straws are not only appropriately tasty but also sustainably-made. You can choose from strawberry, chocolate, lemon and lime—a flavour that has been suggested to add a zesty element to the classic Gordon’s Gin and Schweppes tonic.

And given that Gordon’s recently announced the launch of its new pink-hued gin and soda, which will be available at Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out in Melbourne on August 31, we can’t help but feel that the strawberry straw would make the ultimate addition to the highly-anticipated spritz.

Unfortunately, the edible straws aren’t available in India as of yet as they can only be purchased from 31Dover.com—a site that only ships within the UK. However, given the acclaim the product has already received, we’re hopeful the straws will make their way to Australian shores in the near future.
