BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta organization has issued an ultimatum to Ujjain Smart City to submit documents pertaining to the construction of Mahakal Lok Corridor.
According to sources, Lokayukta officers have sent a reminder to the authorities in connection with the second complaint, adding to the ongoing investigation into three separate cases, including the collapse of six of the Saptarishi idols during a thundershower on May 28. If the documents are not provided, Lokayukta warns, the special police establishment (SPE) will be instructed to proceed with seizures.
The second complaint was filed by a resident of Tarana in Ujjain district regarding alleged corruption in the project.
Lokayukta sought tender documents as part of probe
The Lokayukta took note of it and asked for a response from the executive director of Ujjain Smart City Project in December 2022. Despite multiple reminders, there was no response, say officials.
The Lokayukta has also sought tender documents as part of its probe into the toppling of Saptarishi statues.
The Lokayukta’s probe into the Saptarishi incident includes finding out when the decision was made to use fibre-reinforced plastic for the idols in Mahakal Lok and whether this decision was made “transparently and in accordance with proper procedures”. The agency is also assessing if the idols were manufactured in compliance with standards, whether there were any deviations from quality requirements and if the installation followed proper procedure.
